An old 8″ fire tablet (6th gen I think). I wanted to use it as a photo slideshow for my parents. Quickpic used to be the app of choice, but won’t play nicely with SMB drives (the version I have may be limited to NTLMv1, which is a no-go due to security vulnerabilities. Reddit suggested various options, and one that works great with my existing SMB setup is F-stop gallery. App works with the old firmware of the tablet, and connected to my shared drive no problem. Now I can add photos to the shared drive and they will get added to the infinitely looping slideshow. Much easier than my first idea of VNC session with a remote slideshow playing.
